Just to play the Geometry Dash Lite game and clearing its majority of the level is fun but the actual fun begins when you create a level of your own. The game provides players a proper setup to create a level of their own. But as a new player it can be overwhelming as well to see a screen full of multiple options, a blank grid and hundreds of game modes, deciding what to do could be really hard.
Well, in today’s guide here I will teach you how you can overcome the fear of this stacked screen and how you can make a proper level of your own using them.
1) Opening the Editor and Setting Up Your Level
You guys have to start by opening the game’s ‘’level editor’’ which mostly shows a hammer and a wrench icon.. Click it and a new page will open in front of you guys. You have to click on the ‘’New’’ option and after that a new blank canvas will open in front of you guys, to which you guys first have to give a name. This would be your level name but you can change it afterwards as well if you want.
Configure Level Settings
Next click on the GEAR ICON that you see on the screen’s top right corner. This will open a list of new options.
- From there, choose your starting speed, this could be between normal to modifiers such as slow, 2x,3x,4x fast etc.
- Next you have to decide the starting mode of the level. The character shape you would like for your level. You can decide from standard cube, UFO, ball, ship, wave, robot, spider, swingcopter.
- Next you have to choose the game type. Go for classic if you want auto scrolling, otherwise go for platformer mode for free left and right movement.
- Next, select your stage core element which is a background music track from the built in library. Players can also make use of newgrounds and add custom tracks. Be very sure about your chosen track as the rhythm of your level will be according to its beat.
2) Master the Basic : Pacing blocks, spikes and slopes
Now you have to move in the editor grid, where you will see that the screen divided into two halves. One providing the Toolbar on the left side and Utility buttons on the other side. You have to start by tapping on the ‘’Build tab’’ option marked by a blue block icon. Go to the official website https://geometrydashpc.net/
Grid Configuration
- First you have to decide the ground and the platform. The solid square boxes you witness on the screen will build the floors and ceilings whereas the white outlines are gonna indicate the solid surface where the character can safely land.
- Then you have to choose the obstacle pattern you want in your level. You can plant the spikes hazards wherever you feel like on ceilings, floors etc. These spikes sharp edges, when the character touches them it will die.
- The next step will be to add the smooth transitions to your stages where necessary. Here placing the slopes at 45 degree and triangles will avoid the abrupt switches.
3) Understand Jump Rings, Pads and Portals
Now the next thing you have to decide about your stage is what to add to make the level more engaging.
- You can decide to place the Jump pads on your stage wherever you want. They will instantly push the character up when it comes on it or they will flip the gravity.
- You will also find the option to add the Jump Rings or Orbs. Place these mostly in midair, clicking them timely triggers their effect.
- Red Ring : High Jump
- Green : Gravity flip + jump
- Blue : Gravity flip
- Pink : short jump
- Yellow : medium jump
- Next you need to decide where you want to place the portals. These portals allow mid game characters transformations like cube transform into ship.
4) Designing Fun ‘’Gameplay Layouts’’
- Always complete your new level layout first, by adding uncolored simple blocks and spikes.
- Next try to conduct as many playtests as you can as a better level always has a fair, readable and rhythmically satisfying one. You can conduct tests by replaying the game sections, intentionally die, mistime your taps or clicks and try to eliminate almost all kinds of impossible jumps or glitches from the level.
5) Syncing your Gameplay to the Music
To make your level reach the level of perfection, ensure that the character jumps, transitions, portals changes, gravity flips etc everything synchronize with the soundbeat rhythm you have set. An additional tip is to try to adjust the portal transitions and high speed sections on the heavy downbeats or vocal peaks of the track you added. And lastly at the level checking play your own created level with headphones on, if you see movements syncing seamlessly with the background music then your stage is perfectly ready.
6) Coloring and Basic Decoration
Once your stage is good with layouts and resting next comes adding colors to it, so the visuals are attractive as well. You can decide to add background and ground colors and try to not combine any eye straining colors. The level settings option will show the background color palette. You can add semi transparent blocks, glowing lines at the background of your stage.
7) Publishing
The last step to do before publishing is that you have to play your own created stage from the start to end in normal mode after which you can publish it.
Following these steps anyone can create and publish their stages in geometry dash, but if you also want to know about how you can improve your gameplay as a beginner then check our guide ‘’How to improve at Geometry Dash’’ here.
