Getting a machine to site in good working order is the starting point. Keeping it running productively through the shift requires a different set of habits. Monitoring during operation

  • Engine temperature. Normal operating temperature should be stable once the warm-up period is complete. A temperature that climbs above the normal range and does not stabilise indicates a cooling system issue that needs attention before it reaches the warning threshold.

The few minutes required to clear packed material during a fuel or meal break prevents the accelerated wear that occurs when a compacted undercarriage runs through the full shift without attention.

Responding to the first sign of a fault

The decision point that determines whether a minor issue stays minor is usually the moment the first symptom appears. On Takeuchi excavators and most construction equipment, the most cost-effective response to any developing fault is to investigate it at the earliest practical opportunity rather than pushing through the shift.

A hydraulic line that is starting to weep at a fitting is a low-cost repair at first notice. Left through a full shift of high-pressure operation, the same fitting can fail to the point of a full hydraulic line replacement and extended downtime. The cost differential between early intervention and late response is rarely close.
